Artist collective of the Isoo - Gallery
With the exhibition of the Borjass group at the OSTRALE Biennale O19, the OSTRALE - Center for Contemporary Art Dresden is presenting a versatile specialty that was created almost in secret:
On display are works by a group of young artists from the Iranian city of Amol, a city in the north near the Caspian Sea in Mazandaran Province. From Tehran you can reach the city after an approximately three-hour drive through the gigantic and impressive mountains of the Elbrus Mountains.
The works of these young artists have never been shown outside of Iran - so far they have only been shown at exhibitions in their own country, including in Tehran. In their works, the artists deal with their lives, their surroundings, their society and their own inner world of thoughts. There are stories to be discovered that can receive a different, new interpretation here – outside of Iran.
The group exhibition is entitled "The Range | The Area". In addition to oil and acrylic paintings, it shows drawings by Akbar Nematirad, among others, which appear to the viewer like stills from a Fellini film - they tell of love and violence, street scenes merge with a dream world, perspectives are reversed. Also on view is a powerful collection of photographs by Hamed Ghasemi, taken at a street market in Iran, that tell us a universal story of life and death and our habits.
Martina de Maizière, Executive Director of the Foundation of Art and Music for Dresden:
"I am looking forward to getting to know the young Iranian artists and I look forward to their world. It will be an enrichment for the people of Dresden to experience their perspective as they come from a country where you have to deal with personal restrictions all the time."
