Altarbild von Marlene Dumas

Marlene Dumas, Pietà, 2016. Sketch from the process of the altarpiece

On 26th March 2017, 2 pm, the new altarpiece by Marlene Dumas will be consecrated in the "Annenkirche" Dresden.

That the South African artist who is currently residing in Amsterdam agreed to work on this project, is a fantastic contribution to Dresden as a city of contemporary art. The altarpiece is a masterpiece of contemporary religious art in our city. Marlene Dumas' works are represented in many private and public collections, among them the Arken Museum for Moderne Kunst, Kopenhagen, the Centre Pompidou - Musée National d'Art Moderne, Paris, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, die Kunsthalle Kiel, the Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt am Main, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, the Städtische Galerie at ZKM, Karlsruhe.

The Foundation of Arts & Music for Dresden is supporting this project, especially the communication about the new work of art in Dresden.
